Language Delays
Early Language Development
Language development starts at birth. Babies are soaking in the sounds, patterns, and rhythms of language all around them. Their brains are wired to learn language through interaction, even if they’re not talking yet. Language continues to develop rapidly as a child grows.
Expressive Language
Expressive language is the ability to express thoughts, needs, feelings, and ideas to others. It’s the part of language that involves what a person says and how they say it. In children, expressive language develops as they learn to put words together, use correct grammar, and convey meaning clearly. It’s how they communicate their thoughts and how they interact with the world around them.
Receptive Language
Receptive language is the ability to understand words, sentences, and meaning when someone else is speaking. It’s how a child takes in and makes sense of language. Receptive language development begins even before children say any words themselves.
